The relatively cool growing season coupled with the unexpected heat spikes in late summer resulted in a late and shortened harvest with lower yields. That meant concentrated flavors that can be expected to mature into elegant, structured wines, almost European in style.
Cooler than average temperatures returned again in early September, but gave way to a welcome, warm and consistent Indian Summer, bringing good flavor and color development across the board.
I tasted this wine over a two day period to see how it would develop as the wine opened. This is certainly the BIG brother to the 2009 Vintage. BIG, ripe and opulent are my starting point for this wine. Loads of fruit. Ripe macerated cherries, cassis and blackberry grabbed my palate. A beautiful balance of fruit, acid and tannins are what I noticed. Hints of cocoa, violets and even a touch of graphite were floating through this complex and lovely wine. Wonderful mouth feel and weight to this serious Oakville Cabernet. -Eric Carpenter, Sommelier
